On the 9th April 2021, Ffion Jones aged 35 from Old Colwyn ran her first ever Marathon, in memory of her Mother Val Jones who received care from St David’s Hospice, a local palliative care charity based in Llandudno, North Wales.
(Ffion and Val)
Val spent time at St David’s Hospice in August 2017, and from this point Ffion, a Sous Chef at the Cottage Loaf Restaurant in Llandudno, has been a keen Hospice supporter, raising much needed funds for the charity on a regular basis. Ffion participated in St David’s Hospice’s Santa Dash on numerous occasions, in addition to their Dragon Boat Challenge twice as part of the Val’s Vikings team, and completing Conwy’s Half Marathon. She has also arranged numerous raffles and quizzes for the Hospice.
Ffion started her challenge at the Rest & Be Thankful Café on the Orme in Llandudno, running along the coastal path to the end of Rhyl Promenade, completing her first every marathon in an impressive 4hrs 38 minutes!

Ffion expressed her determination to complete the challenge:
“I’ve done many half marathons, but this was my first full marathon. I found doing the marathon very challenging, but it was made easier as I could create my own route, do it my own time and choose my own date.’’
Ffion continued to explain her reason behind supporting the charity:
“My mum was cared for by St David’s Hospice and was given the best care and treated with such compassion.
“I ran the marathon to show my gratitude and hope my fundraising goes towards the brilliant care given to patients and their families at St David’s Hospice.”
To date, Ffion has raised £844 (including gift aid) – If you would like to support Ffion, please visit her Justgiving page: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ffion-jones35
James Wilde, St David’s Hospice Community Fundraiser expressed his thanks to Ffion for her fundraising efforts.
‘’We are extremely thankful to Ffion for raising much needed funds for the Hospice. Community fundraisers make up 90% of the £5 million annual running cost of St David’s Hospice, with just 9% of that figure coming from the Welsh Government and Local Health Board. Without the support of the community, we would not survive.’’
