Llaneilian W.I. Group has successfully hosted an open garden party to raise funds for the satellite inpatient unit being developed by St David’s Hospice.

Held at the home of the group’s secretary Ann Collins, the visitors took a stroll around the beautiful gardens and were treated to a delicious selection of cakes along with hot drinks and enjoyed the sounds of a ukulele group.

A raffle was also held on the day, alongside craft and plant stalls that had been organised by members.

President of the group Dorothy Nemeth said:

“A massive thank you to our members, friends, local businesses, and husbands, who helped us raise an amazing £1,498! Well done everyone.

“We all recognise the importance of having such a facility present on the island. The group were very keen to raise funds for the new Hospice”

The project at Ysbyty Penrhos Stanley, Holyhead started building at the end of last month and is expected to take five months to complete.

It is completely independent of the NHS and will be funded and run by St David’s Hospice. All capital and running costs are to be raised by the charity totalling £950,000 and with some funding already secured, a fundraising appeal has been launched for the £475,000 needed to complete construction.
