A team of six co-workers from the Llangefni cheese manufacturer, Glanbia Cheese is to take on St David’s Hospice’s China Challenge next year.
Martin Parsons, Tracey Wright, Margaret Stibbards and Rachel Threadkell along with husband-wife Nia and Neil Humphreys, are set to take on this exciting challenge.
The group will embark on their journey to the Great Wall of China on the 8th of May 2020. This trip will see them spend seven days trekking the wall, taking in the spectacular views, facing the challenge of walking up 1000 steps during one day, and even rebuilding part of the wall as part of a restoration project.
The team, all from Anglesey, first became aware of St David’s Hospice’s work in 2018 when Martin’s wife Beverley sadly passed away at the Hospice.
Martin’s appreciation for the care at St David’s Hospice inspired others to take part. Martin explains:
“Staff at Glanbia found themselves joining in various Hospice fundraising events, both in memory of my wife Bev and to ensure that others would be able to receive the same level of care.
“I personally signed up for the event as I wanted to take on something that would take me out of my comfort zone that would also allow me to ‘give something back’ to St David’s Hospice”
The charity is currently fundraising for a satellite unit to be located within Penrhos Stanley Hospital, Holyhead. The project, which is currently going through the NHS procurement process, will ensure that the highest standard of inpatient care can be given to the people of Anglesey in a safe and home-from-home environment.
‘Team Glanbia’ are already hard at work raising sponsorship for this challenge, and have organised a number of fantastic events in the coming months including; A golf day at Henllys Hall golf club on 22nd September and a pizza and fizz or pint evening at Dylan’s Restaurant, Menai Bridge on 3rd October.
When asked about the fundraising process, Tracey Wright said:
“The community are always happy to support local charities, whoever said people don’t care! They do in my fundraising experience.”
