Work by St David’s Hospice is already well underway and a new satellite Hospice unit will open in spring 2020 situated within Ysbyty Penrhos Stanley, Holyhead

The ambitious development will create four inpatient bedrooms which will provide respite and end of life care to patients living on the island who are facing life-limiting illnesses; together with support for families and carers.

The project is completely independent of the NHS and will be funded and run by St David’s Hospice. With this in mind, the charity is now seeking support from the local community which will help to change the shape of hospice care on Anglesey forever.

Newly appointed Sister of the Anglesey Hospice, Amanda Powell-Jones is currently in the process of recruiting the clinical team to deliver the specialist care. She explains how you can help:

“St David’s Hospice needs to raise in excess of £4 million every year to keep current services in Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey open. We are hoping members of the community will support us by joining our St David’s Hospice Lottery, which is the most sustainable way in which to help. There are prizes to be won every week including the 1st prize of £1000.

“If 500 people were to join the Hospice Lottery for £1 per week, I will be able to recruit our first Anglesey Hospice nurse. All the money raised through St David’s Hospice stays locally. ”

“I think it is wonderful that the people of Anglesey will have a hospice inpatient unit on their doorstep. The demanding journeys to St David’s Hospice for hospice care in Llandudno will be no more. The high level of care given at the new Hospice will replicate that which has become synonymous with St David’s Hospice. “
