North Wales Businesses have gone head to head in the North’s greatest Corporate Quiz Challenge to raise funds for local Hospice care.

Barclays Bank, with the support North Wales Business Club, has raised £16,000 for St David’s Hospice from a record-breaking ‘Test the Team’ Corporate Quiz Night, which was held at Venue Cymru back in May.

The event saw fifty teams go head to head in the interactive digital quiz, which was put together by Barclays in support of the local Hospice, bringing the North Wales Business community together once again.

Rupert Moon, former international rugby union player kept everyone entertained throughout the evening as quizmaster, once again pledging his support for St David’s. John Pitchford, Corporate Banking Director for Barclays said:

“We are delighted with the amount raised for St David’s Hospice and would like to thank everyone who supported us to make this happen. Alongside our Shared Growth Ambition, Barclays has a fantastic Colleague Community Programme that encourages employees to get involved in the causes we care about. It’s about giving back our skills, time and energy to support our local communities – so we’re thrilled to have raised this money.”

Mel Herman, Chairman of North Wales Business Club which backed the event said:

“I am delighted the quiz was so successful and am immensely proud of the Club’s members and guests whose participation and generosity has helped raise a total of £47,000 over the 4 years it has been running. We are now planning next year’s event which will be held at Venue Cymru again on Wednesday 13 May 2020”.

St David’s Hospice must raise in excess of £4 million each year to ensure that the Hospice’s services can be sustained in the local community. With just 12% of this figure coming from the Local Health Board it leaves the enormous task of raising in excess of £3.5 million each year through charitable contributions, and events such as the Corporate Quiz.

Trystan Pritchard, Chief Executive at St David’s Hospice said:

“I am once again overwhelmed at the support we have received from the local North Wales business community for the Corporate Quiz. To see nearly fifty local businesses come together on the night was quite something and I am extremely grateful to Barclays and North Wales Business Club once again for their tremendous support. The funds raised will go a long way towards caring for patients who desperately need our support in North West Wales”.
