Sarah and Carwyn’s Anglesey Coastal Path Challenge

Penmaenmawr mum sets herself a charity challenge with a difference.

Over the summer, Sarah Breeze-Roberts is aiming to complete the Anglesey Coastal Path with a companion attached to her back – her 21 month year old son Carwyn.

Following the designated coastal path, the pair will travel 130 miles in total, broken down into fifteen sections. The route passes through a varied landscape that includes a mixture of farmland, coastal heath, dunes, salt-marsh, foreshore, cliffs and a few small pockets of woodland.

Sarah with three stone Carwyn in a back carrier, have completed ten sections so far and plan to finish with Holyhead to Trearddur Bay, which whilst in Sarah’s view is the hardest is the most scenic

The sponsored walk is to raise funds for local charity, St David’s Hospice and is in memory of Sarah’s mother Doris Breeze who passed away at the adult Hospice in May last year.

Sarah, 43 said:

“St David’s Hospice looked after my mum so wonderfully with dignity and care.

“At the time Carwyn was five months old and they let us stay in the family room, nothing was ever too much trouble.

“If she could see what me and Carwyn were doing now, she’d be laughing and cheering us both on!

“I can’t thank St David’s Hospice enough for what they did. This is a small way to say thank you to them and I plan on doing one wacky challenge a year for the Hospice in memory of my mum.”

St David’s Hospice Community Fundraiser, James Wilde said:

“This is a really unique and interesting challenge and a great way for Sarah and Carwyn to come together to remember Doris.

“I know it’ll be tough for Sarah carrying Carwyn that distance but after speaking to her I know she can push through and create memories for her and Carwyn and celebrate Doris’ life at the same time.

“The money raised will go a long way to raising vital funds for the work done here at St David’s Hospice.”
