St David’s Hospice launches new Café Dewi Take Out Service in a bid to raise much-needed funds

The Hospice café located on Abbey Road, Llandudno is a popular eatery for many, but due to the pandemic, the doors remain closed.

In a bid to raise funds, the Catering Team at the Hospice are now offering a Take Out Service from Café Dewi. The menu is a selection of the much-loved items and a selection of new choices including the addition of paninis.

St David’s Hospice is a local charity that relies on the generous support of the local community and fundraising initiatives such as the café. The closure has led to a loss of approximately £24,000 in takings.

Hospice Catering Manager, Gary Anderson said:

“We are looking forward to welcoming back our customers to enjoy our delicious food again. It is a fresh new look menu, which includes our customer’s favourite, Fish Friday, tasty fish, chips and mushy peas! We can’t open the cafe at the moment, but you can still enjoy the food in your own home or as a picnic.

“We are ideally located on West shore, just a stone’s throw from the beach, perfect for walkers and beachgoers. All our food is freshly prepared daily at the Hospice and all profits will go directly to end of life care.”

Each year the Hospice needs to raise over £4 million to keep its doors open to be able to look after people living with life-limiting illnesses in North West Wales. Due to Covid-19, shops were closed and fundraising events cancelled and the charity will now face a total financial loss of over £1 million.

The funds raised through café helps to cover the cost of providing free meals to the patients in the Inpatient Unit at Llandudno.

The cafe, which has s 5-star food hygiene rating, will be following all covid-19 safety guidelines. Food can be pre-ordered or bought directly from the cafe.
