Walking in the moonlight to remember loved ones

A group of Llandudno friends are joining in the first ever St David’s Hospice Moonlight Memories Walk to raise funds in memory of a beloved friend.
Jackie McQueeney from Llandudno was cared for by the adult hospice before passing away in June, aged 52. Family and friends are so grateful for the kindness received and decided to give something back to the local charity.
Jackie’s sons Billy and Mickey said:
“The Hospice holds a very special place in our hearts, as it did to our mum. The hard work, care and compassion they show to patients and family members is indescribable. They are truly special people working in a truly special place.
“From her time there 11 years ago looking after her mother Hilary, to her recent time there as a patient, she always said ‘you truly couldn’t wish for a better place’. A true reflection I’m sure everyone can agree with.
“We feel extremely proud our mum’s friends are participating in the Moonlight Memories Walk for St David’s Hospice. Good luck to everyone involved in the walk, we wish you all the best.”
Nicked named ‘Witches & Co’, the ladies will don their witch’s hats and walk 10km around Llandudno. The route will take in the beautiful scenery of Llandudno’s promenade, Happy Valley and West Shore beach. At the halfway point located at the Hospice itself, there will be a beautiful memory garden, with an opportunity to leave a message in memory of a loved one.
An online sponsorship page has been set up for the group, already totalling £1220 and says:
“We want to raise money in support of St David’s Hospice to thank them for the incredible care and support they gave Jackie whilst she was there. They made things more comfortable for her and her boys through a heart-breaking time.”
“This walk allows the ‘witches and co’ to reminisce about all the happy memories of Jackie. She has a special place in all our hearts and always will.”
The Moonlight Memories Walk is a ladies only night-time walk starting at Ysgol John Bright, Llandudno at 10pm on September 30.
All proceeds raised in sponsorship for this event will support the invaluable care that is offered to patients in the communities of Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey who are living with an advanced illness.
Registration is still open for those who wish to take part. Entry is £15 and each participant will receive a t-shirt, half-way refreshments and a medal on completion.
