North Wales Housing has raised over £10,000 for St David’s Hospice through a year-long fundraising effort led by its staff.
Each year, the organisation invites its 200-plus employees to nominate a Charity of the Year. Four shortlisted charities are then put forward at the annual Staff Conference, where colleagues vote to select the final recipient.
In March 2025, staff chose St David’s Hospice by an overwhelming majority. Fundraising efforts, coordinated by North Wales Housing’s Charity Panel - made up of four staff members and led by Assistant Director of Finance, Emma Williams - soon gathered momentum.
Fundraising is a year-round initiative at North Wales Housing, with the panel making the most of every opportunity. Activities included a monthly 50/50 draw deducted from wages, as well as sweepstakes, fantasy football, bingo, treasure hunts and raffles. Food also played a big part, with staff organising regular themed events featuring everything from Chinese dishes and fish finger butties to breakfast baps, apple crumble and cakes. Seasonal celebrations such as Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day, Easter and Christmas also provided further fundraising opportunities.
Additional initiatives included a ballot to win tablets and Christmas workshops while residents in one of North Wales Housing’s Extra Care schemes contributed by taking part in a bingo and cake event.

“It was an absolute privilege to support St David’s Hospice and help ensure that people across Anglesey, Conwy and Gwynedd can access vital end-of-life care when they need it.
“We were not aware that the Hospice relies so heavily on fundraising, and this became a key motivation for our staff. We wanted to help safeguard a service that provides dignity and compassion at such an important time.
“St David’s Hospice is a wonderful charity delivering an invaluable service across North Wales. We would encourage everyone to continue supporting their work - particularly by visiting their shops across the region and participating in their organised fundraising events.”
Colleagues also showed strong support for Nichola Chegwin, NWH’s Development Project Manager, who took on the five-day Sahara Trek in aid of St David’s Hospice. Nichola covered 100km over four days, trekking for six to ten hours at a time in temperatures reaching 35°C. Nichola’s fundraising efforts alone raised more than £4,000 for the Hospice. This is in addition to the £10,000 raised by North Wales Housing.
