Paul had been attending art therapy sessions led by Therapeutic Artist Suzy Morris, and they became a cherished and important part of his weekly routine. Before he died, Paul shared with us how these sessions have made a remarkable difference in his life.

“Art therapy has made such a difference to my outlook,” Paul explained. “The time spent with Suzy lifts my spirits and I spend the whole hour happily distracted from my cancer woes and worries.”

Creating art was more than just a weekly activity; it  filled his home and his life with joy. “We spend a whole week getting bits ready for the following week’s session.” “Our house has all the various things we have made in the sessions all around—reminding me that life can be fun and not all doom and gloom.”

A Shared Journey

One of the unique aspects of our complementary sessions is that patients are welcome to bring a family member, friend, or carer with them. Paul attended his sessions with his wife, Debbie, and the experience was just as meaningful for her.

The sessions have helped us both by making Paul forget about the cancer and make him smile. To see Paul not be stressed for a short time is brilliant and it just helps us both enjoy life a little bit instead of thinking about cancer and the bad stuff.”
